The Longines 431 watch movement features a unique design where the train and hand gear are driven separately by the barrel. This design allows for a low profile and ample space for a large balance wheel. However, it requires high precision and gear stability, due to the numerous wheels involved in the coupling between the second and minute hands. The movement offers automatic winding and sweep second functions and was commonly used around 1972.
