The Elgin 559 watch movement was in use during the period between 1938 and 1954. It featured a Breguet hairspring and included the Celestograf with a calendar module on the 470 model. The exact differences between the 473 and 479 movements are not known. Key functions of the Elgin 559 movement included manual winding, a sweep second hand, day indication, a date hand that could be set using the pusher at 4 o'clock, month indication set by the pusher at 10 o'clock, and moon phase indication set by the pusher at 8 o'clock.
