The Bulova 12ECACD watch movement, developed in 1942, is the first caliber to feature bidirectional rotor winding. It belongs to the pilot series for the family 690 through 699, sharing a similar base-plate. Examples of the Bulova 12ECACD caliber with a calendar corresponding to the 693 are also known. This movement is automatic, has sub seconds, and its period of use is approximately 1942.
