The A Michel 494 is a mechanical watch movement that features an ingenious design in which a single part replaces the setting-lever spring, yoke, and yoke spring. Not much is known about the differences between the A Michel 494 and the Alpina 762, or if there were two separate Alpina calibres within the Alpina-Gruen Guild. The earlier Alpina 762 appears to have been finished by Gruen, while the later A Michel 494 was directly purchased from Universal. However, the movement registers and staff lists only mention the base calibre Universal 259, making further investigations challenging. The A Michel 494 is a manual wind movement with sub-second function, and it was commonly used around 1945.
